Hit your kids – or spouse – with one of these instead: –
Do you remember the old adage about the parent saying that the punishment they are about to inflict “will hurt me more than it will hurt you”?
Picture this…
Your kid is running through the house, and you stop them: “Hey, I’d like to talk to you…” You’re watching TV and your daughter is walking into the other room: “Hey, I need to tell you something…” Or your boys are wrestling in the backyard, and you open the door and shout: “Hey guys…”
They think you’re going to tell them to cut the noise. Or remind them about homework. Or criticise what they’re wearing.
No, you’re going to hit them with some words we can’t say often enough: I love you, or I’m proud of you.
If it catches your kids – or spouse – by surprise when you say things like that, just so they know, and they are confused by it, you should do it more often.
You feel better too.
